Why team apparel is more than merchandise

A national team arrives at a World Championships and spends far more hours in the venue than on the strip: warm-ups, weapons check, pool waits, teammates' bouts, medal ceremonies. What the team wears in those hours is how the team is seen. It is also, practically, how athletes stay warm in convention halls that run cold for ten hours a day.
Team outerwear also works as a marker of belonging. Fencers who have earned a spot wear something that says so. That matters to the athlete wearing it and, in a quieter way, to the young fencer in the stands who notices.
The Summer Nationals debut
The special-edition jacket debuting at 2026 Summer Nationals in Portland is the part of this announcement most members will encounter directly. Summer Nationals is the largest gathering in American fencing — thousands of athletes, families and coaches in one building for over a week — and it functions as the sport's annual marketplace as much as its championship.

A note on the sustainability angle

National team kit exists because there is a national team, and that team is filled by fencers who started in club group classes exactly like the ones we run. The path from a first footwork lesson to a Worlds roster is long and narrow, but it is a real path, and it begins with weekly training.
