Erik Moses Named to USA Fencing Board of Directors

USA Fencing named Erik Moses, CEO of the Fiesta Sports Foundation, an independent director of its Board of Directors.

The vote and the term

The Board voted on June 27, 2026, during Summer Nationals in Portland, Oregon. Moses begins his term Sept. 1, 2026, and was selected alongside Skip Gilbert.

A fencing parent first

Moses is a former fencing parent of two sons — which means he has already spent seasons on the other side of the sport: entries, travel, long venue days, and the equipment bag. Board members who have done that tend to read policy questions differently than those who have not.

Background

Per USA Fencing, Moses reopened a dormant NASCAR track, helped bring Major League Baseball back to Washington, founded a professional football team and a college football bowl game. He is an attorney and a former economic development official, and a three-time chief executive.

What an independent director does

Independent directors have no other affiliation with USA Fencing, unlike the Board seats reserved for athletes, coaches, parents, club owners, referees and at-large representatives. The role exists to bring outside governance judgment to decisions where internal constituencies may pull in different directions.

Why this background fits fencing's moment

Much of Moses's record involves building or restarting sports properties — venues, teams, events. Fencing's domestic growth questions are similar in kind: where events go, how they are presented, and how a national championship weekend feels to the families paying to attend.
