The three options on the ballot
Option A — the winner. A bold new version placing the fencer at the heart of the action and oriented toward the viewer. Per USA Fencing, it was the option preferred by both the Athlete Council and the membership.
Option B. A zoomed-in treatment of the existing logo, adjusted to represent Olympic and Paralympic fencing.
Option C. Keep the dual lockup, with USA Fencing and USA Parafencing marks side by side.
One shield instead of two
The substantive change is not the drawing. It is that a single shield now unites able-bodied fencing and parafencing in one mark, in patriotic red, white and blue, replacing the side-by-side dual lockup.
That is worth sitting with for a moment. A dual lockup communicates two organizations sharing a page. One mark communicates one organization. For parafencers, whose events, referees and national teams already sit inside the same governing body, the visual finally matches the structure.
The fencer being oriented toward the viewer is a small design decision with an obvious intent: the sport facing outward, toward people who do not fence yet, rather than in profile.
The transition timeline
USA Fencing built the rollout around not wasting anyone's money:
- The new logo becomes official Aug. 1, 2026, with the 2026–27 season.
- Clubs do not need to discard existing materials. Banners, uniforms and printed items can be used until they are naturally replaced.
- Beginning with the 2027–28 season — or earlier for clubs that prefer to move sooner — the new logo should appear exclusively on new materials.
Anyone who has run a club will appreciate that. Rebrands often arrive with a deadline that quietly means "reprint everything." This one gives clubs a season of runway and then a clean line for new production.
Members voted, which is the part to notice
More than 1,000 members casting ballots on a logo is unusual. Most national governing bodies hand identity work to a committee and a design firm and announce the result.
Putting three real options in front of the membership — including the option to keep the current dual lockup — makes the outcome harder to argue with. The winning mark was not imposed; it was chosen, and the Athlete Council landed in the same place as the general membership.
What changes for fencers and clubs
Practically, nothing about fencing changes. Rules, ratings, events and qualification are untouched by a logo. What changes is what you will see on national event backdrops, digital platforms and new club materials starting Aug. 1, 2026.
