How Long Is a Saber Fencing Bout? Pools, Periods, and the 8-Touch Break

A saber bout is short by design. Pool bouts run to five touches with a three-minute limit, direct elimination bouts run to fifteen touches, and in saber the break replaces the usual rest period once a fencer reaches eight touches.
