USA Fencing Brings 2027 Summer Nationals to Salt Lake City

USA Fencing announced that the 2027 Summer National Championships — the largest fencing tournament in the world — will run July 2–11, 2027 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in downtown Salt Lake City.

Ten days, thousands of fencers

Summer Nationals draws more than 6,000 fencers from nearly every state, ranging in age from roughly 7 to 89, across ten days of national championship competition. For a saber family, it is the one event on the calendar where youth, cadet, junior, senior, division, and veteran championships all live under the same roof.

Why Salt Lake City

USA Fencing pointed to an estimated $8.4 million economic impact for the host city, with tens of thousands of athletes, coaches, officials, and family members using local hotels, restaurants, and shops over the ten days.

The city is not new to fencing. Salt Lake City hosted the 2026 Absolute Fencing Gear FIE Sabre World Cup in January 2026 and a USA Fencing NAC in October 2025.

A festival of fencing

USA Fencing described the 2027 edition as more than a championship: a "festival of fencing" that will include training camps for U.S. Olympians and Olympic hopefuls ahead of the 2027 FIE World Championships, scheduled July 20–28 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan — a key step on the pathway to LA28.

What leaders said

CEO Phil Andrews welcomed the event to Salt Lake City, as did Jeff Robbins, President and CEO of the Utah Sports Commission, and Clay Partain, Chief Sports Officer at Sports Salt Lake. All three tied the announcement to the city's Olympic legacy — host of the 2002 Winter Games, with 2034 on the horizon.

Spectators and logistics

Admission is free for public spectators. USA Fencing said schedule and registration details would be published later at usafencing.org, so families planning travel should watch the official event page rather than booking around assumptions.

Planning ahead as a saber family

A July event in Salt Lake City means travel planning well before the season ends, and qualification planning even earlier. Qualification pathways for Summer Nationals are set by USA Fencing's national rules, so the practical sequence is: qualify first, then book.
